Frequently Asked Questions

How is the word count calculated?

Words are counted by splitting the text on whitespace (spaces, tabs, newlines). Multiple consecutive spaces are treated as one separator. Hyphenated words (e.g., 'well-known') count as one word.

What reading speed is used for the estimate?

The default reading speed is 200 words per minute (WPM), which is the average adult reading speed. For technical content, actual reading time may be longer. The estimate rounds up to the nearest minute.

Does it count characters with or without spaces?

Both. The tool shows character count with spaces and without spaces. Character count with spaces is what most platforms (Twitter, meta descriptions) use for their limits.
